Three key questions you will be able to answer after viewing this video: Q 1. What is the Sensor Controller?It is an Integrated Autonomous Sensor Interface with Programmable CPU. It resides within a separate power domain (referred to as the AUX domain in our technical documentation) which contains peripherals, a low power processor, memory (in the form as RAM) as well as control and interface logic to allow it to run independently. It can control it’s own power modes, enable and disable required system reference clocks, control IO’s and wake up the main application processor from sleep. Q 2. Why use the Sensor Controller?Use it to control sensors.It is optimized for Low Power.The SC CPU is Programmable which allows you to create custom algorithms and Bit-Banged Serial Interfaces. The SC CPU can also run concurrently and and offload the APP CPU. Q 3. How to use the Sensor Controller?An IDE GUI Tool called Sensor Controller Studio is used to create and debug sensor controller programs. The software tool is free of charge and includes code editor, compiler, task testing debugging, IO selection GUI tool, and many example projects.

Autonomous navigation and collision avoidance are critical functions for safety and efficient operation in both consumer and industrial robots. Learn about how 3D time-of-flight sensors enable two different robots to “see” their environment and move around without collision. In the first part of the video, a vacuum robot equipped with relatively simple algorithms and a depth image from the 3D time-of-flight sensor is able to determine when to slow down, when to stop, which direction to turn, and how to maneuver around obstacles without collision. The second half of the video demonstrates a home robot equipped with the same 3D time-of-flight sensor and more advanced algorithms. This robot builds a map of the environment and uses the map to plan its path.
